Liberty Confetti Quilt by Tied With A Ribbon

I love working with amazing designers and so, when Jemima said she wanted to make this Liberty Confetti Quilt with the new exclusives, I jumped at the chance.  She’s based in Australia and designs quilt patterns.  She loves Liberty fabrics and so I love to collaborate with her. This Liberty Confetti Quilt is the perfect quilt for my exclusives as it shows the fabric off really well.  The fabrics can really shine set against the pale background Tana Lawn. The exclusives all cut up and ready to start piecing with the nude Tana Lawn. The exclusives are beginning to shine …

Midnight Blue Liberty Quilt – Featured in Today’s Quilter

I’ve recently designed this Midnight Blue Liberty Quilt for Today’s Quilter Magazine.  I had a vision to make a blue and white quilt, inspired by the willow pattern found on many pieces of china.  I love this old pattern.  The raw edged central panel was inspired by Chinese wallpapers (like the ones you see at Chatsworth).  I bought some huge platters at an auction recently and wanted to use these designs for my most recent quilt.  It’s got a pretty awesome central applique panel which I love on the white background.  Among other flora and fauna, this panel has both a …

Quilt Block Project Planner

Anne Commins from the Lewes Sewing Bees has made this rather lovely Quilt Block Project Planner.  I asked the Sewing Bees to sew with my exclusive fabrics before the summer.  I have been completely bowled over with all of the projects that have appeared in the studio.  This project is such a great idea.  It’s a really fabulous way to plan your quilt block.  Anne has used a lovely combination of my exclusive Strawberry Thief and Capel Mint as the basis of the project planner. On the front of the Quilt Block Project Planner there is a pocket which can …

Beautiful Quilt Display

It was a great moment to see the Beautiful Quilt Display at the Festival of Quilts recently.  The Festival of Quilts kindly agreed to hang the SOS Quilts to showcase the charity project to their visitors.  Several of the ‘makers of the quilts’ came to visit their quilts as well as our stand.  I managed to take 2 minutes out from the hectic stand to have a quick photo with some of the quilts. Each quilt was really nicely labelled with the designers statement and inspiration for the quilt.  The Festival of Quilts attracts thousands of visitors to the show …

Stunning Liberty Quilt in My Liberty Exclusives

I’m delighted to showcase this Stunning Liberty Quilt as part of my summer of sewing inspiration.  This beautiful quilt has been made by Veronica Greenslade from ‘The Lewes Sewing Bees’.       Veronica talks a little about herself, her love of sewing and the love of ‘The Bees’ (The Sewing Bees that is).   “I have been sewing since I was a little girl and was encouraged by my mum and grandma.  My mum loved dress making and I was the proud owner of many a homemade dress.  I first made some patchwork blocks some twenty-five years ago, which …

Liberty Quilts Are Arriving!

Liberty Quilts are arriving!  Everyone in the studio gets really excited when a quilt sized parcel arrives.  We eagerly sign for the precious cargo and then carefully (trying really hard not to tear anything on the way in) unwrap the quilt. For those of you who don’t know, the lovely Alice Caroline customers have been busily making quilts for our Quilt SOS project.     This beautiful light and dark blue squares quilt was made by Kay Edwards using the Pennsylvanian (or Irish chain) block.  It’s beautifully crafted and so accurately sewn.  The dark blue gives a strong frame to …

Liberty Rainbow Quilt

I’ve been wanting to put a Liberty Rainbow Quilt kit together for ages.  Claire and I got chatting and we put some colours and fabrics together. Claire from the studio has made it. Isn’t it gorgeous?  It’s a 2.5 inch strip quilt which is made using the ‘Quilt As you Go’ technique.   Claire makes our kits for the Sewing Quarter, for supplying the Liberty of London store and our own website.  She puts all of the colours together for charm packs and jelly rolls too.  In her words “I love working at Alice Caroline”.  Claire classes herself as an …

Liberty Quilt SOS Progress

I thought that you might like some Liberty Quilt SOS Progress news for 2018.  I launched our 2018 project back in January and, so far its going really well.  Our lovely Alice Caroline customers have already pledged over 40 quilts.  We need 66 quilts in total so are getting close!  Some of the quilters have sent pictures of their quilt progress and I would like to share these with you.  These are not finished quilts but you can see how fabulous they are going to be. I’ve been sent some rather lovely pictures from the ‘Lewes Sewing Bees’.  They have …

Sweet Liberty Quilt

When the editor of Popular Patchwork Emma Kennedy asked me to make a quilt to feature in the magazine, I couldn’t resist this new Sweet Liberty Quilt design.  Emma gave me a lovely colour palette to work from and this bright and fun design is the finished quilt.  I tried out lots of different thoughts and designs in the making of this quilt but love this contemporary look. The design is based around making triangles of different sizes in bright and colourful Liberty fabrics combined with this fun newsprint fabric.  I’ve had the newsprint fabric for a while now and …
