Liberty Cathedral Classic Cushions

I am delighted to showcase these stunning Liberty Cathedral Classic Cushions.  These beautiful Cathedral window cushions have been made by Suzanne Campion, one of the lovely Alice Caroline customers.  Suzanne is a firm supporter of the Quilt SOS project and so far, has made many quilts for us to take to new worthy homes.  She stepped in at the last minute last year to make lots of extra quilts so that each child would receive one in Vilnius, Lithuania – thank you so much Suzanne! Suzanne told me a little about herself and her sewing journey.  “My Gran taught me to …

Liberty Irma Top

The lovely Sarah from the studio has made this lovely Liberty Irma Top.  It’s made using Liberty linen.  The pattern is New look K6163.  It’s a really simple pattern and an easy make.  This top has 3 pattern pieces and straight forward seams which are interfaced so it’s only a few hours of cutting and sewing.   The back detail of the Liberty Irma Top.  Sarah chose a pre made button from our stash at Alice Caroline.  You can use embroidery thread to finish this detail if you prefer which makes the task even quicker.   Linen is lovely to …

It’s a Liberty Glenjade Day

It’s a Liberty Glenjade kind of a day today.  Claire and Hils in the studio have been busy sewing this week.  Take a look at what they have made! Claire has made a lovely jumpsuit from Glenjade I using The Poppy Playsuit pattern from Simply Sewing Magazine (Issue 16). Claire lengthened the pattern to make a full length playsuit which needed a little extra fabric.  Glenjade is a really nice fabric pattern.  It’s not too overpowering and the small scale print is cute.  Claire loves blues and says that most of her clothes are blue.  She put elastic on the …

Liberty Quilts Are Arriving!

Liberty Quilts are arriving!  Everyone in the studio gets really excited when a quilt sized parcel arrives.  We eagerly sign for the precious cargo and then carefully (trying really hard not to tear anything on the way in) unwrap the quilt. For those of you who don’t know, the lovely Alice Caroline customers have been busily making quilts for our Quilt SOS project.     This beautiful light and dark blue squares quilt was made by Kay Edwards using the Pennsylvanian (or Irish chain) block.  It’s beautifully crafted and so accurately sewn.  The dark blue gives a strong frame to …

Liberty Linen Dress

Laura has made this beautiful Liberty Linen Dress.  She’s used ‘Irma’ Sycamore Linen which is one of my all time favourite Liberty prints.  It’s the print which epitomises the perfect English garden and looks beautiful on this summer dress. The fabric:  Irma is such a beautiful Liberty print with watercolour florals from the spring / summer 2013 collection.  It was printed to retain the exact brush strokes and the tiniest pencil marks.  Pretty drawn plants include euphorbia, poppies, astrantia and iberis which all blend together to create an etherial meadow.  The Sycamore Linen fabric base is even and smooth which …

Lovely Liberty Top

Laura has made this rather Lovely Liberty Top from one of our Liberty sale fabrics.    Laura has designed and made her own pattern for this Lovely Liberty Top.  She studied fashion and textile design in Sydney, Australia.  This is where she learnt to make her own dress making patterns.  I asked her how she decides on the final pattern.  “I combined all of my favourite elements of the clothes in my wardrobe and traced the main shape around an existing top.  The whole point of pattern making is that you can adjust a style to perfectly suit you and …

Liberty Summer Dress

When one of my super lovely customers Tracy Aplin said she liked a fabric on Instagram, I asked her if she fancied making a Liberty Summer Dress from it.  She said yes and ta da – here it is.  Anna’s modelling Tracy’s rather gorgeous dress.   The fabric:  The fabric for the Liberty summer dress is called Magical Bouquet A It was inspired by the exquisite grandeur of the National Gallery and its’ magical rooms. Their elegant Dutch flower paintings are captured in the rich blooming roses, tulips and carnations in this wonderfully vibrant fabric.    The fabric is from …

Liberty Floor & Scatter Cushions

We have been busy in the studio making Liberty floor & scatter cushions.  We’ve made four really pretty cushions from the two new Liberty fabric collections. The Liberty floor & scatter cushions are all made using the log cabin design.  This quilt design is really fun and easy to use which makes it popular with quilting beginners.  It’s also popular with long time quilters too though as you can play around with different fabrics to change the overall look of your cushion or quilt.   We have chosen random fabrics from the two new Liberty collections for this project as …

Beautiful Boy Quilts

Before we took the Quilt SOS quilts off to Lithuania, we took some photographs of these beautiful boy quilts.  This animal quilt is so sweet.  Made by Margaret Lupton, I love the design.  Mr Hedgehog and Mr badger are my favourites.  I absolutely love seeing the amazing quilts arrive at the studio.  We all get very excited when the parcels arrive. The patterns for the animals (except badger) are taken from an Elizabeth Hartman design called Fancy Forrest. We put all of the boy quilts together as we had such a wonderful number of them this year. Many of these …

Beautiful Liberty Butterfly Cushion

Dawn from the studio has made this beautiful Liberty butterfly cushion using my exclusive Alice Caroline Liberty collection.  She has used my pattern for the raw edge appliqué quilt block to make the cushion, but the full cushion pattern is in the May edition of Pretty Patches Magazine and you can buy your copy here. This beautiful Liberty butterfly cushion is a really lovely project – the raw edge appliqué looks a bit tricky, but once you have had a practice, it really free’s up the possibilities for sewing.  This is such a pretty cushion – the fabrics are from my …
