It’s always exciting when a brand new Liberty collection swatch book arrives. I absolutely love looking at the new design ideas from the Liberty design studio. This new SS18 collection is designed with children’s wear in mind, however many of the prints would be great for a wide variety of other sewing projects.
The inspiration behind this collection is of a child’s journey exploring a busy bustling city. Travels through glorious gardens and magnificent museums with inspiring archives and splendid art galleries. The day is an action-packed adventure of stunning sights, sensational sounds and dazzling discoveries. These designs are a joyful collection of 16 original Liberty designs inspired by this marvellous day out. Some have been inspired by the costume archive in the V&A, dinosaur designs by a trek to the Natural History Museum and flight inspired designs from a zooming visit to the Science Museum.
There are some really sweet designs in this collection and they will be available to buy from January 1st. There are several super pretty florals and fun prints which are perfect for sewing for children. I see pyjamas, pillowcases and sweet little dresses made from these. I just need to turn that into a reality.
Patchwork Stories is a print of hexagons which is a bit of a cheat – Liberty have already put together the hexagons for you so you don’t have to English paper piece them together (unless you love a bit of EPP)
The new Liberty collection also takes you on a voyage of discovery from zooming to the science museum for a frenzy of flight, spotting soaring rockets through peppered clouds to rumble and roar of the dinosaurs from the Natural History Museum.
This is the second collection for the spring summer 2018 season. There is also the Alpine Symphony collection which is a really pretty collection which has been inspired by sweeping mountain vistas and wildflower meadows.
I love this ‘A Pocket Full of Memories’ collection and can’t wait to get sewing with some of the prints.
Love Alice x
